Graduate and Professional Student Council
Mission
Graduate and professional student workers are an essential component of the University’s ecosystem. We contribute to the University of Utah's goals in many ways, including, but not limited to: teaching and mentoring students; conducting research individually and in collaboration with faculty; contributing to funding by acquiring grants; increasing the public presence of the University through volunteering; and fostering community within departments. These students face challenges that are distinct from those of other populations on campus and that require unique solutions. The goals of the Graduate and Professional Student Council are to promote graduate student engagement in shared governance processes, enhance the overall graduate student experience, and build community between these students across campus.
The GPSC prioritizes involving students from a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and spiritual beliefs. We aim to build a community that is supportive of all graduate and professional students, including those who have been historically underrepresented and disadvantaged in higher education settings, such as indigenous students, international students, students with disabilities, neurodivergent students, students with dependents, and other minority groups, so that all voices are heard.
